Wordpress is now officially targetting enterprise customers. It has parterned with KnowNow – a leading provider of feed solutions – to create KnowNow Wordpress Enterprise Edition (KWEE). KWEE is a Wordpress MU edition that is open to KnowNow for modifications but they will have to release it back to the open source tool.
I think Wordpress really entered the market with the release of Wordpress MU. Wordpress is a fantastic blogging tool, and being open source it receives contributions from the user-base all over the world. The only think I see lacking in Wordpress for enterprise usage is search. Otherwise Wordpress has already proven itself in installations like these, and lets not forget Wordpress.com.
It is a great news for the blogging community as well as these news highlights importance of blogging in the business world. This news has not been seen in a lot of places, because it is available only for pilot customers.
Richard Macmanus thinks that Wordpress now is posing a threat to SixApart. I think Movable Type is a very good product, but Wordpress is easier to adopt. They have their differences and both are pretty neck to neck in what they offer. The essential difference is that Wordpress is made for end users to adopt, whereas Movable Type is built for developers to work with it. This will decide who will use what and probably also make them find their own users.
