[...] I think it is great. In my opinion spamming exploits a loophole in the current search engine algorithms, since they are purely link based. Human contribution to these algorithms can fix these loopholes and probably work as the best solution for spamming. ChaCha is another search engine which has contributions from humans, but in a different way. [...]

[...] This can also be considered to be the reason behind all the spam. Spammers try to insert links to the target website so that its pagerank increases. I think, just like other metrics even the pagerank is just an indication of quality and can be manipulated. This algorithm assumes that linking will happen out of liking of a web site, but this can be manipulated using spamming and programs like link exchange. Scoble mentions how Microsoft can be world’s greatest SEO. Can there be a better algorithm for calculating and assigning importance to web pages? [...]

[...] When I first brought up the issue of humans manually comment spamming, a lot of people were skeptical, but those in the know were very worried. According to Abhijit Nadgouda of ifacethoughts and The Guardian, comment spammers are now hiring cheap labor to break through captchas and registrations to spread comment spam all over your blogs. Though a single spammer cannot be as fast as a machine, thousands of them together than spell a lot of trouble. Captchas force you to identify certain characters and enter them, which machines cannot follow. This works fine assuming that humans, for whom captchas are built, do not spam. The outsourcing trend will overcome this. [...]

True, moderation is the only way of truly avoiding spam. Challenge question is effective, but it will also discourage the right guy who wants to comment. I think commenting should be easy, only then will there be conversations.

That's incredible! I still approve every comment on my blog and it's incredible the volume of SPAM I receive, even with Akismet. I have had much more luck with contact form spam by implementing a "challenge question". I wonder what the success of outsourcing would be on challenge questions which require comprehension and familiarity with the website.
