Alex Faaborg illustrates one of the best uses of the Semantic Web. Mozilla Firefox 3 might identify microformats and associating them with specific applications. As an example, how about if you can export a contact from the HTML page to an application. It can identify a vcard or hResume and associate it with your contacts manager.
Currently browsers do associate mime types with applications. But Web has grown in an inclusive way such that it is now composed of various type of contents, not mime types. This can lead to a more collaborative world between various applications and the browser, which means better automation and more convenience for you and me.
I like the way Alex puts it
The Web Browser as an Information Broker.
Richard MacManus notes that Firefox already has an extension Operator that identifies microformats. So it can be considered that the users were looking for it.
I think this will be a killer feature, for the user as well as the browser itself. As the browser market is getting crowded, the dinosaur can use this to raise its head up.
