Bernard Golden visited the CIO Magazine where he was asked why CIOs did not care about open source. He gives his reasons. I quite agree that some CIOs might not even come to know about existence of some open source applications because of lesser hype in the analyst circles. In fact I have met some industry people who think that enterprise software cannot be open source or vice versa. Some others analyze the open source culture with the aim of proving it insufficient for enterprise applications. Nowadays, when most of the standards and cutting edge technology is coming out of open source projects, cost is not the only factor to consider open source. It is quality and flexibility without getting vendor-locked.
