A good tongue twister, but unfortunately it is also true. GotDotNet will be shutdown (via Jonathan Allen). Codeplex, a Microsoft’s space for open source project hosting, is supposed to take over.
The reasons provided seem a bit diplomatic. Reduction in traffic in last six months seems to be too short-term to be of a concern. GotDotNet already hosts somewhere around 8000 workspaces. And if the resources had to be refocused, why come up with a new site and replace the older one with it! I will keep wondering why, whatever CodePlex has, could not be built into GotDotNet! Anyway, CodePlex is more targetted to be a SourceForge clone, while GotDotNet was almost a Collaborative Development Environment. The difference is in the workspaces. James Newkirk admits that it will not be very soon that this will be built into CodePlex. So, in reality, CodePlex cannot replace GotDotNet, and GotDotNet cannot be completely shutdown.
So, more websites, more logins and more management. Is this not more trouble for the .Net users? Could GotDotNet not have what CodePlex will have? Or is it just the domain name? I wish Microsoft could have taken some feedback on this from the GotDotNet users!

Hello Abhijit,
Have you tried CodePlex? The users of GotDotNet workspaces that have switched to CodePlex all say they like CodePlex much better.
Thanks,
Jonathan

Jonathan,
Thanks for dropping by. Yes I did try CodePlex, and I preferred GotDotNet, specifically for the workspaces. I found it unique amongst the project hosts. And it is not only that, now I have to be aware of two websites, which possibly could have been kept as one.
