Wondering About Search And Wordpress Cron

I am wondering if Wordpress 2.1 pseudo cron scheduling framework can be used to index the content or maybe integrate an external search solution. This can help in returning relevant search results as well as search in multiple fields, not just the post body. I am doing some experiements to improve search, but I feel that none of them will be better than a native search solution.

As a sidenote, I have received some comments saying that search is not critical in blogs. And I completely agree to regarding individual blogs. However there two things to note – one that Wordpress MU has the potential to power corporate blogs which can become information mines and act as a source for search. Secondly, Wordpress is not being used only for blogs, it is being used for many more and different purposes and I believe search is something that can hurt.

Getting back to search, I have kind of reviewed the Google Co-op here and will stop using it and try another solution. But I really wonder if the cron scheduling framework can be used to have a regular indexing activity that can be used for better search results.

Alpesh, I had used the Addicted Live Search plugin sometime back. It is great. However, I am trying to see avenues to improve search results by considering relevancy and searching more fields than just the post body.
