Matt Mullenweg says Wordpress is not overnight success. If overnight success means getting popular overnight, neither does it say anything about the effort behind it nor about how long the success will stay. As Matt says, Wordpress is a four year old mature project contributed to by many, which says a lot more. It has geared momentum, especially because of the Wordpress.com availability and some excellent tools like Akismet along with it. Matt also points out one of the flaws in the media today, the eagerness to cover the young-founder-starts-gets-vc-funding pattern as success misses a lot of significant story. Well said Matt!
