Spammers Find Innovative Ways To Crack CAPTCHAs

We have seen use of humans by spammers to get smap through the CAPTCHAs. Spammers are getting more innovative and have devised a different way of using people to solve CAPTCHAs. This seems to be lifted off from the where the CAPTCHAs are used to digitize books.

They are using a Windows malware, which entices users to type the words correctly from scrambled texts by providing a strip show. It can sure catch the undoubting Windows users. Now there are various ways in which you can avoid falling prey to this.

  • Be aware of the malware and consciously avoid succumbing to it, and clean your machine using malware and anti-virus cleaners
  • Avoid Internet Explorer browser
  • Avoid Microsoft Windows (recommended)
  • Intentionally give wrong answers. Maybe this will do good as it will confuse the software spammers are using.

This malware maybe too obvious to really fool users, but I will not be surprised if they keep pursuing this. Maybe superficially model this as a noble cause or some kind of a game, with an underlying intent of spamming. In my opinion, just like the spammers are using the community to break the guard, the solution to kill spam can be through a community participation. Which is why I feel that tools like Akismet are in the right direction.
