Acid2 is a nice way to test the standards compliance of a browser. What is not nice is that most of the popular browsers did not pass it. Surprisingly, this is changing fast. The recent, or upcoming, versions of major browsers now do pass Acid2. And yes, this includes IE 8, which gets a lot of attention, and Firefox 3. Kudos to the vendors. I hope the trend continues in other technologies.

Are you suggesting that we may see an overall standard that will be used for all browsers in the future? It seems that whatever Microsoft develop the other players are always one step ahead of them.

John: They are supposedly catching up, or at least trying. My hope is they do because unless there is a level playing field, we can’t push for real innovation in the market.
Re, Entry: This is great news!

Is Firefox3 available for download?
I have seen some images of FF3 but not get to chance to use this.

john, not an overall standard, but if browser vendors show keen interest in compliance with standards, it will help us users a lot.
John Melling, well said.
Sanjay, Firefox 3 builds have been available for some time. You can get them at http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/ Or you can choose to download the source and build the binary yourself.
