Yahoo! now implements OpenID, so you can now use your Yahoo! ID to login into a service that demands an OpenID. There was an unofficial way of doing this earlier, but official support from Yahoo! might boost the OpenID project.
Giants like Google, AOL, Microsoft, Sun and now Yahoo! have brought the limelight on OpenID by providing it. Then there are other popular services like WordPress.com that let the bloggers use their blog URL as an OpenID.
This sounds like OpenID is all craze and 2008 is going to be the its year. But there is still a vaccuum in the space where applications are adopting OpenID. The web user will benefit from it when there are more applications which accept OpenIDs, not only when there are providers. How many of these giants accept an OpenID to provide their service?
We need more efforts to make companies adopt OpenID in an easier way. I think we need more efforts like DiSo, which tries to use OpenID and OAuth together. They will encourage more companies to accept OpenIDs for their accounts.
The whole point of OpenID is to not have multiple IDs for various services. I hope the big companies do more with OpenID and go beyond providing it, and make OpenID really useful.
