Manoj, a dear friend, kind of forced me into writing the first ever article I wrote, and opened up the wonderful world of blogging for me. He says it rightly, “If you want to write, write. Don’t talk!”
Jeff Atwood said something similar about writing software.
When it comes to software, the same rule applies. If you aren’t building, you aren’t learning. Rather than agonizing over whether you’re building the right thing, just build it. And if that one doesn’t work, keep building until you get one that does.
I agree. It is better to do mistakes and learn from them instead of being scared of making them. Surprisingly, mistakes will instil more confidence in you than anything else.
However, I have seen too many of those as well who have written a lot of code, unfortunately the same one over and over. Why? Because they get comfortable there. Along with writing a lot of code, make sure you are not repeating it. Even if you are not doing something new, learning from mistakes will always bring out an improved code.
Writing a lot of code will help if you are using it to improve your programming. Otherwise it will not do much for you.
