Google, Microsoft and Yahoo! together have come up with canonical URLs to solve the problem of duplicate content on a site. We can convey our preferred URL for a page by including a link element in the head of the (X)HTML page. It is a big enhancement, but it will be a huge effort to make all the sites implement this. WordPress, Drupal and some other CMSs already have their plugins ready. WordPress 2.3 introduced its own canonical URLs and I think we can reuse it for inserting the links for canonical URLs.
