bbPress will soon power TalkPress, a hosting service for online forums. It is similar to the WordPress.com service, though it is currently not open to public. I am sure this will also bring in integration between the two hosting services. bbPress gets a lot of love from the WordPress community because it:
- is an excellent piece of software for forums, with similar focus on simplicity, extensibility and is open source
- integrates smoothly with WordPress
- is from the same team
The big advantage coming out of this for the bbPress community is that it is seeing the same benefits that WordPress users saw when the hosting service was launched – we can now use the same software to launch our sites that Automattic uses for its services. Specifically, bbPress can now get scalable with HyperDB and gets its own multi-user version with bbPress Channels.
