OpenStack has open sourced the cloud hosting space. Rackspace with its Ozone code that powers its cloud servers, and NASA with its Nova cloud computing fabric controller, have come together to give us this open source cloud computing software. The Register has some more details on this.
Being open source, this will provide freedom from vendor lock-in. And if OpenStack really achieves its aim of an open development model with cooperation between various vendors, it will fuel development of standards for clouds.
While we are on this topic, this is not the Web developer’s open stack.
This is more than just another open source software. This is infrastructure technology that can be adopted by different entities for different reasons to do different things and drive innovations in different domains.
